The Hungarian government introduced the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program in 2013 with the intention of giving international students the chance to complete their higher education studies in Hungary. The program’s primary goals are to increase the number of foreign students studying in Hungary and to motivate local universities to recruit excellent international students.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade oversees the scholarship program, which is coordinated by the Tempus Public Foundation. The initiative is based on bilateral agreements for educational collaboration that Hungary and the Ministries in charge of education in the receiving countries/territories have signed. The program currently has more than 80 Sending Partners participating on 5 different continents, and its geographic reach is expanding yearly.
The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program offers both full-degree and partial study options in the three cycle degree structure (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees), primarily in the English language, although other foreign language study program are also offered. Students may also enroll for a one-year Hungarian language preparatory training program, after which they may continue their Hungarian-language higher education studies.
